While it’s great to show a potential employer that you know how to take initiative and be proactive, proving it by answering your cell phone during the interview is NOT a good idea. But apparently such behavior is not uncommon among Millennials on the job market. Human resource pros have witnessed some seriously inappropriate conduct among recent college grads in interviews, ranging from texting and taking calls to speaking in slang and wearing unsuitable clothing. One girl even brought her cat into the interviewer’s office! (It was in a crate, at least.) Experts say social media and smartphones have affected the social skills of today’s 20-somethings. Many have also been sheltered and coddled by their parents, and as a result, are ill-prepared for the real world.
